Final Reflections

Reflections:  After this journey, we have learned a lot about our district and canton, we feel that this project has helped us appreciate more where we live. Our district or neighborhood is a very safe and beautiful place that everyone should visit at some point of their lives. It doesn´t have a lot of touristic places but this makes it a familiar place in which people easily get to know their neighbors. What we like the most about Santo Tomás is that it isn´t full of houses or buildings, it still has a lot of green areas to enjoy. Also, you can always see people running, walking their dogs, and having a good time outside. This means that people can go out of their house without being scared something bad will happen. This project made us learn a lot of new and interesting things about our neighborhood. We learned some facts such as when it was founded, by whom, and other things. What we found the most fascinating was the evolution of Santo Tomás as a district. Finally, we conclude...

Interview to a neighbour

Imagen
As the third post of our blog, I interviewed an aged women who lives on my neighborhood about her opinions on the district of Santo Tomás. She has lived on Santo Tomás since 2003, this means she has lived here for 18 years. She said that the things she liked the most about this place was that Santo Tomás is a small community and most of the people who live here are very good and kind people. During all the time she has lived in Santo Tomás, some things have changed, or evolved in a good way. Some of these things are better security, improvement on the roads, making the community prettier, among other things. She expressed that all this was because of the good communication between all the people of this community. Santo Tomás has always been a very beautiful place where families can live and have a happy and calm life. Also, the prices Santo Tomás offers are accessible and very good, considering that it still has green places, such as coffee plantations and more. Finally, some other re...

Interview to our parents

Imagen
For this post we decided to interview two of our family members to actually get to know a little more about their collaboration and participation in the district. We first asked them if they had to pay some kind of tax in order to help the municipality of our district, they answered that each trimester they had to pay around 120 000 colones (this numbers may vary between properties).  We also asked them about their participation and support of the public activities offered by the district, we didn´t get a lot of helpful responses because this family is pretty new to Santo Tomás and hasn´t been able to enjoy any of these activities. Also, the pandemic hasn´t helped a lot with this, but we hope that we can win the battle against covid and be able to get to enjoy everything that Santo Tomás has to offer without being worried about the spread of this virus. According to this family, the services offered to the community haven´t changed due to Covid, this can tell us that Santo...

Facts about Santo Tomás

Imagen
To begin this blogger, first I´m gonna tell you some facts about Santo Tomás.  Santo Tomás is a very beautiful place with a lot of interesting things. Here are some facts about Santo Domingo and Santo Tomas. First, Santo Tomás was created or founded between 1848 and 1869. Santo Tomás has its own ruling party, which is called MAS (Movimiento Avance Santo Domingo). It is the current ruling party of the canton. It is not usual to see a “non- traditional” party winning over the elections, but, due to the discontent of the people with the previous ruling of the “more traditional” parties, they chose to actually give their vote to a more local and small party. As a random fact, Santo Domingo is one of the 12 out of 82 cantons who chose to give their vote to a local party. The last population count of people who live in Santo Tomás was made in 2011, but the results said that nearly 6267 people lived here. Of course, through all these years the district has changed significantly, and the p...
