Interview to our parents
For this post we decided to interview two of our
family members to actually get to know a little more about their collaboration
and participation in the district. We first asked them if they had to pay some
kind of tax in order to help the municipality of our district, they answered
that each trimester they had to pay around 120 000 colones (this numbers
may vary between properties).
We also asked
them about their participation and support of the public activities offered by
the district, we didn´t get a lot of helpful responses because this family is
pretty new to Santo Tomás and hasn´t been able to enjoy any of these
activities. Also, the pandemic hasn´t helped a lot with this, but we hope that
we can win the battle against covid and be able to get to enjoy everything that
Santo Tomás has to offer without being worried about the spread of this virus.
According to this family, the services offered to the
community haven´t changed due to Covid, this can tell us that Santo Tomas´
municipality is actually very organized and they have been able to maintain
these important services even though the situation has been very hard. Nevertheless,
some of the activities that were very characteristic of the district have been
lost in this pandemic, sports, “fiestas patronales”, and many other activities
had to be stopped to help with the situation that Costa Rica and the world have
been facing.
As I mentioned before, our family hasn’t been able to
go and participate in the activities offered by the community, although, we did
use to go to church every Sunday and that is definitely something that we have
to go back to doing because it was a time that united us a family and a space
to give thanks for everything we have and get to enjoy every day.
